Don’t Be A Foreclosure Victim
You missed a mortgage payment a couple of times. Now you are receiving notices from you lender to contact them as soon as possible. You are one of the many experiencing difficult financial problems. You’re nervous and worried about foreclosure. Before you do anything rash, you should know there are steps to take to prevent foreclosure
There are many things that cause sudden changes in your finances. You might have suddenly lost your job, got divorced, became ill, or lost a loved one. Lacking sufficient resources financially can lead to your problems making your monthly mortgage payment.
You have maxed out your credit cards purchasing things you normally pay cash for like your groceries, your utilities or other monthly bills. This is causing you to become behind in payment due dates. Now you’re unable to pay your credit card balances in full, you get new ones as the old cards become maxed out and you have to decide which bills have to be paid first. This financial trouble can lead to home foreclosure.
You need to control your expenses to be able to avoid foreclosure.
- First, manage your finances accurately. Keep a budget and stick to it. Set aside money for every expense so you have sufficient amount for every bill, electricity, water, and mortgage, is paid regularly. Budgeting can help you reduce your expenses as well.
- The next thing you should do is to keep track of your purchases and expenses. Write down all the things you buy every day. This will show you where you need to cut back, especially if you are spending beyond your limits.
- Limit purchases using your credit card. Adding more expenses to your credit card increases your balance and monthly payment. Instead you should only use credit cards for emergencies. Try to use cash for all your purchases. If you don’t have the cash in your pocket, then you don’t need to buy the item in your hand.
- You should prioritize you payments as well. Your home, medical expenses, food and education should come before non-essentials.
- The last thing you might need to do to avoid foreclosure is to get help from your lenders. When you’re having financial difficulties, you need to let them know as soon as possible to prevent the snowball effect of missed payments. They are there to help you if they can.
If you really want to save your home you will have to make some tough decisions. You might have to take on a second or third job. Cut back on your grocery budget by eating more ramen noodles and low cost meals. Forego eating out and other forms of expensive entertainment. Get rid of unnecessary expenses such as the high cell phone plan, the big movie package on your cable or even your high-speed internet connection. Sell stuff you no longer need, then sell things you do need.
Remember your house is your biggest investment. No one, including the lender, wants to see you lose it.
