Boston Foreclosures Making Living in the City Affordable?
The Boston Herald reported that the current financial slowdown has created opportunities for buyers that could not afford to buy in Boston proper. According to MLS, there are 93 single-family homes for sale in Boston at $250,000 and under! Of course, these homes are listed in Beacon Hill or the Back Bay, but many of these homes are in areas that are desirable for other reasons, besides their tony zip codes. The lowest price home is a three-bedroom “handyman special” on Condor Street in East Boston for $99,000. At the higher end is an eight-room Colonial in top shape for $250,000 on Evans Street in Dorchester.
The Herald reports “Before the housing market went south last year, the explosive rise in home prices in Boston pushed buyers beyond Worcester and south to Brockton in search of affordable houses. Today, amid a national real estate bust, there are more options to live in Boston.”
